Taylor Swift donated over £23,000 to a young, gifted, and broke Tottenham teenager who had started a GoFundMe appeal to become a mathematician. On her appeal page, 18-year-old Vitoria Mario described herself as a ‘black girl with a dream’ and explained that despite being offered an unconditional place at Warwick to study mathematics, she was unable to afford to take it up.
The story was initially covered by the Independent and then seen by Taylor Swift who made the generous online donation.
Taylor Swift left the following message on the page: “Vitoria, I came across your story online and am so inspired by your drive and dedication to turning your dreams into reality. I want to gift you the rest of your goal amount. Good luck with everything you do! Love, Taylor“
After sharing the donation update with the national media and PA the story went viral and received over 726 hits in the UK.
