Daisy Canny (Reilly’s mum) agreed to share the appeal with the local and national media including the Press Association who put the story out on the news wires twice, including images and a follow up story.
The campaign went viral with nearly 500 articles, including multiple pieces of coverage in The Sun, The Mail, The Mirror, Metro, Yahoo and AOL. Plus blanket coverage across the regional press.
The appeal then caught the imagination of the broadcast media and Reilly was filmed / photographed having his hair cut at Masters & Misters Barbers in Clacton. Daisy and Reilly were interviewed by the BBC and ITV news, Good Morning Britain, BBC Breakfast News, Channel 5 News with Cbeebies were keen to feature also.
I have stayed in contact with the family and the appeal continues to grow and has smashed its original £100 target to date, (October 2020) raising £6,500. Reilly, gave his two-foot-long mane to the Little Princess Trust, who provide wigs to people who’ve lost their hair during cancer treatment.
