Nine-year-old Jordan Banks was killed by a freak lightning strike on a football pitch. The youngster who played for Clifton Rangers Junior Football Club’s under-nines in Blackpool, was described as an “extraordinary young man who had done so much good in his community”.
Jordan was tragically killed by a lightning strike as he took part in a football coaching session in Blackpool on May 11. An inquest hearing at Blackpool Town Hall heard how the young footballer fell to the floor when the weather changed “very quickly” during the training session.
Jordan Banks’ family described him as ‘the brightest star’ and ‘wise beyond his years’…

The appeal raised over £127k and generated over 1,000 media articles in May 2021 including blanket coverage across the nationals including the Guardian, The Independent, The Mail, The Mirror, Metro and the Sun.

A number of high profile England Footballers offered condolences to family and the Clifton Rangers JFC also set up an appeal which also raised over £16k.
