Stephen White sadly lost his nose to cancer and needed his eyes lasered and his teeth done after they were damaged during radiation treatment.

The self-conscious granddad admitted all he wanted to do was ‘just fall in love’. But after the nasal cancer left a gaping hole in his face, the 51-year-old from Exeter, had become a recluse.

The dad-of-three, who has eight grandchildren, said he was living like a ‘vampire’ because he was too ashamed to go out in daylight. He would like to start dating but says he doesn’t have the confidence because his appearance ‘scares’ people.

Since it was an extremely sensitive story I worked closely with the family to confirm they wanted to proceed with media coverage and negotiated copy approval on their story with PA.

Feedback

The page included many compassionate messages of hope for Stephen: “You inspired me. Not just feeling grateful for my own health, but because you represent the ultimate hope – living your life as it’s been dealt you, but with purpose to see your grandchildren grow. Every one of us can find a purpose even in the darkest dark. Thank you.”
