Darren and Lauren met in Royal Brompton hospital where they were both being treated for cystic fibrosis. Despite the risks of cross infection and advise from medical staff not to mix, they fell head over heels for each other and decided to marry.
Sadly, it was a race against time for the star crossed lovers though because Darren’s transplanted lungs went into rejection and he was told he might only have weeks to live.
Determined to seal the romance and the dying groom’s last wish, close friends of the family started the GoFundMe crowdfunding page, which doubled its modest £1,500 target within just 48 hours allowing the lovers to have their very special day, which was filmed and photographed by the Press Association.
